Rotary District News

Vol. 1, Edition 26 - March 1, 2023

Information Every Club in District 6450 Can Use

Comments from Governor Ade

March is Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month!

The Rotary Foundation has invested globally in water, sanitation, hygiene, and water resource management interventions. Providing clean water supply, water treatment or purification, waste management, irrigation, WASH in schools, sanitation, menstrual hygiene management, and hygiene in healthcare facilities are some of the projects that Rotarians support.

Protecting the environment is one of Rotary’s areas of focus. Rotary is committed to supporting activities that conserve and protect natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. I invite you to visit the link below to see the types of water, sanitation, and hygiene projects and activities eligible for global grant funding.

Rotarians and Rotaractors are on the frontline providing humanitarian service in Turkey.
Rotary members from ROTARY/One recently hosted a virtual meeting where the Chicago area and Rotary leaders from Turkey presented an overview of the devastation from the recent earthquake in Turkey and Northern Syria.  District Governor Emre Ozturk, District 2430, presented a three-stage disaster recovery plan for assisting the survivors that remain in the area. The first stage addresses the immediate emergency needs, the second stage focuses on providing accommodation, and the third stage will use global grants to provide a multi-clinic equipped with ultrasound equipment, a mobile kitchen, and a mobile childcare center. In addition, DG Ozturk’s presentation included information on ways to provide funding directly to the district.

13-19 March — World Rotaract Week – The district has many openings on our various committees. Serving on committees is an opportunity for you to engage in Rotary. Join a district committee and learn more about Rotary International. I implore you to share your talent while honing your leadership abilities and expanding your knowledge. Inquire about the following committees: Membership, Training, DEI, Interact & Youth Services, Youth Exchange, Mental Health, Community Services, and Public Image.

31 March — Preregistration discount ends for the Rotary International Convention
‘Sharpen your leadership skills, get inspired with new ideas, and learn from others at a breakout session in Melbourne, Australia, 27-31 May 2023.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN for the 2030 District Conference! The district conference will be held on Saturday, May 6, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at The Max in McCook, 4750 Vernon Avenue, McCook, IL. There is no charge, and food will be available for purchase.  https://rotary6450.org/

Yours in Rotary Service,

Ade Onayemi
